Resistant Materials (1996 - Present)
'Resistant-Materials' is an exhibition project which has been shown in eight municipal exhibitions around the U.K. during the last ten years. The project utalises artefacts collected over the last fifteen years from 150 different state schools from in and around the London region. The project seeks to evidence pupils oppositional and resistant behaviours which in turn higlight issues of unsettlement and low well being. The project incorporates hundreds of found objects and large artifacts. The project is lead by Guy Tarrant (Artist/General Teacher) with contribuations from Mercedes Philips (Artsit/Supply Teacher) and Kim Campbell (Artist).
Project work has been shown as; 'God Save The Pupils' at The Stephen Lawrence Gallery in Greenwich University, 'God Saves the Pupils 2' at The Dean Clough Galleries in Halifax, 'Culture, Alienation, Boredom and Despair' at The 20:21 Arts Centre in Scunthorpe, 'Pumped Up Kicks' at Leeds University Concourse Gallery, 'At Play 4' at The South Hill Arts Centre in Bracknell and Oxford Visual Arts Development Agency and 'Confiscation Cabinets' at The V&A Museum of Childhood in East London, now being shown at The Centre for Life in Newcastle.
