Resistant Materials (1996 - Present)
'Resistant
Materials' (formerly known as 'God Save the Pupils') is an exhibition project
currently in progress which has been shown in various galleries; The Stephen
Lawrence Gallery, Dean Clough Galleries, The 20:21 Arts Centre, The Leeds
Metropolitan University Concourse Gallery and The South Hill Park Arts Centre. The project utilises
artifacts
collected over the past ten years to evidence oppositional resistant behaviours
in state schools in and around the South East/London region. The exhibition
incorporates hundreds of found objects and large artifacts. The project has been devised and run by Guy Tarrant ( Artist/Teacher) with input from Mercedes Philips (Artist/ex-Supply
Teacher) plus support from Kim Campbell (Artist). This work can be understood as a non-traditional participatory art approach as it utalises the unplanned everyday actions of others as a starting point for making artworks.
